Holes Management

Overview

The Holes dialog is the main place to manage drillholes in GENESIS.

Open it with:

• H shortcut, or
• the Holes button in the ribbon.

In this dialog you can:

• enable/disable holes
• organize holes in folders
• sort and filter hole lists
• edit comments
• set collar/trace colors
• run hole operations (envelope, section, visibility rules, learning tools)

Enabled vs Disabled Holes

Each hole has a Show state:

• Enabled
• Disabled

When a hole is Disabled, it is treated as non-active in the project:

• not visible
• not used for mineralized intervals
• not used for composites

Use the Show column to switch status per hole.

Organize Holes

Folders

You can organize holes by path/folder in the list tree.

Useful tool:

• Edit > Create Folder From Zone: automatically places holes into folders based on their Zone value.

Sorting

You can sort holes by available columns (name, show state, colors, length, zone, coordinates, azimuth, dip, comments, optional columns).

Visibility Tools

In addition to manual enable/disable:

• Edit > Set Visibility From SQL: apply visibility from query rules.
• Edit > Set Visibility From Intervals: apply visibility using an interval set.

Display and Color

Set colors

• Display > Set Collar Color…
• Display > Set Trace Color…

Colors can be assigned:

• as specific fixed colors, or
• by dictionary values (based on a selected text field).

Edit Hole Information

Comments

• Edit comments directly in the Comment column, or
• use Edit > Set comment… to set one comment for selected holes.

Optional columns

Use View > Optional Column… to show or hide extra hole fields in the list.

View and Analysis Tools

View selected holes

• File > View… to visualize all your holes data in a CSV

Create envelope from holes

• Operation > Create Envelope… builds an envelope around selected holes.

Create best-fit section

• Operation > Create BestFit Section creates a section from selected holes.

Learning Tools

Available from the Learn menu:

• Find Good Zones…
• View Learning Log
• Clear Learning Log

These tools support assisted zone analysis workflows.

Practical Tips

• Disable holes that should be ignored in modeling workflows.
• Use folders (especially by Zone) to keep large projects readable.
• Use SQL/Interval visibility tools for fast scenario-based filtering.
• Set consistent collar/trace color rules before review and interpretation sessions.
